Riding photos at the BMX BBQ 2008

In addition to standing around and talking about how good we were, some actually hopped on a couple of Robert’s bikes and showed how good they still are in the form of an old school flatland jam. Robert, Ross, Clint and another guy. Sorry didn’t get his name.

Lewis and Sons BMX BBQ 2008

24 May 2008 by james and filed in BMX, Events

Once again Roberto from Lewis and Sons Powdercoaters put on a BBQ for all the old school BMXers and a few not so old riders. Was a great turnout like last year, with a few more interstate visitors this year. I think there were half a dozen from Victoria, a few from New South Wales and others from many parts of Queensland. The weather was great, the snags were cooked, some beer was drunk and some stories were told.

It was Roberto’s birthday earlier in the week and being a GT fan from way back, Ross put together a perfect tribute cake. Check it out and if you can’t read it, it says, “31 years of radness”. That’s the birthday boy in the first photo showing the way to the party.

Look out for some more riding photos once I get a chance to work through them.

Who said we ride kids bikes?

Another photo from the BBQ last weekend. Leroy was there with this cool kid’s trike. It’s not just a regular Trek either. Old school DK mini stem, polished to a mirror finish and A’ME mini grips. He has other plans for it as well although the beartrap pedals might be overkill. No all he needs is the child to ride it although in his words, it will probably be too good to give to a kid to ride. Thanks to Mick for the photo.

Few more photos from my trip to Queensland last week. Scott drove me around, took photos then pulled out his Santa Cruz MTB for a spin around the track. Man that thing looks like a tank compared to a 20″ BMX. Enjoy.

Tales from the saddle

22 May 2008 by james and filed in BMX, General

Was lucky enough to spend a few days last week up in sunny Brisbane. So much better than suffering the cold weather here in Melbourne. Why haven’t I moved north? The photos below were inspired by a thread on OS-BMX where people are taking a camera out with them when they go riding and just taking random shots. I decided to take a few from the seat and the first two are riding along the Brisbane River and the last one is down at the Gold Coast in the millionnaire’s row part with the huge beachfront properties.

More photos to come from the trip later, including some very cool old school flatland stuff.

OS-BMX Show 2008

22 May 2008 by james and filed in BMX, Events

The guys at OS-BMX are putting there annual Old School BMX Reunion and Show on again this year. It’s set down for 7 June 2008 at El Dorado Park in Long Beach, Calfornia. I’d love to head over myself however I’ll have to leave it up to another couple of Aussies to represent the downunder BMXers. Word is heaps of old and not so old riders will be there so the likelihood of a jam or two is on the cards. I remember reading Freestylin’ magainze back in the 80s and thinking all the cool stuff happens in California and twnety years later I’m still thinking the same thing.

If you make it to the show look out for some RSABOUT products and pick yourself up a sticker or two if there are any left. Hope it’s a good day for everyone.

Old and new school BMX BBQ in Brisbane

9 May 2008 by james and filed in BMX, Events

Robert from Lewis and Sons has once again been good enough to organise a gathering of old and not so old BMXers. Scheduled for next weekend so check out the flyer for all the details and everyone is welcome. Last year was a very relaxed affair as only the Queenslanders can do. Looking forward to heading up a few days early and getting some riding done around the Brisbane area. So watch out for me screaming around on the FlyBikes Campillo.
