4th Australian Vintage BMX Gathering

2 November 2008 by james and filed in BMX, Events

It all started back in November 2005 with the first Australian Vintage BMX gathering and after trips to Terrigal and the Gold Coast it is back in Melbourne with the 4th Australia Vintage BMX gathering for all the old school BMXers. The first one had a good turn out with most people getting to put names with faces for the first time. It’s now to the point that these gatherings are a chance to catch up with friends made over the years, show a few new (well old) BMXs and generally have a great time. Saturday afternoon at the Knox BMX track and see the flyer for more details.

Brian P’s Summer Slam 2008 Photos

20 August 2008 by james and filed in BMX, Events

Brian P’s Summer Slam 2008 was held on the weekend and by the looks of the photos it was a great day. Once again I have to rely on Guav to provide the photos as I was stuck in Melbourne. One of these days Brian…

Here’s a photo of the host delivering the beer on his Vector freestyle BMX. Plenty of extra tubes on the frame perfect for carting stuff.

There’s a few more photos in the Summer Slam 2008 gallery plus a link through to more of Guav’s photos.

BMX at El Dorado Park 2008 Video

15 June 2008 by james and filed in BMX, Events

There’s heaps of photos and videos floating around from this old school BMX event held in June 2008 at El Dorado Park in Long Beach. This one was put together by OS-BMX member Sodbuster and captures the people, bikes and riding. Tough to make out some of the riders other than Eddie Fiola busting out heaps of tricks.

Riding photos at the BMX BBQ 2008

25 May 2008 by james and filed in BMX, Events

In addition to standing around and talking about how good we were, some actually hopped on a couple of Robert’s bikes and showed how good they still are in the form of an old school flatland jam. Robert, Ross, Clint and another guy. Sorry didn’t get his name.

Lewis and Sons BMX BBQ 2008

24 May 2008 by james and filed in BMX, Events

Once again Roberto from Lewis and Sons Powdercoaters put on a BBQ for all the old school BMXers and a few not so old riders. Was a great turnout like last year, with a few more interstate visitors this year. I think there were half a dozen from Victoria, a few from New South Wales and others from many parts of Queensland. The weather was great, the snags were cooked, some beer was drunk and some stories were told.

It was Roberto’s birthday earlier in the week and being a GT fan from way back, Ross put together a perfect tribute cake. Check it out and if you can’t read it, it says, “31 years of radness”. That’s the birthday boy in the first photo showing the way to the party.

Look out for some more riding photos once I get a chance to work through them.

OS-BMX Show 2008

22 May 2008 by james and filed in BMX, Events

The guys at OS-BMX are putting there annual Old School BMX Reunion and Show on again this year. It’s set down for 7 June 2008 at El Dorado Park in Long Beach, Calfornia. I’d love to head over myself however I’ll have to leave it up to another couple of Aussies to represent the downunder BMXers. Word is heaps of old and not so old riders will be there so the likelihood of a jam or two is on the cards. I remember reading Freestylin’ magainze back in the 80s and thinking all the cool stuff happens in California and twnety years later I’m still thinking the same thing.

If you make it to the show look out for some RSABOUT products and pick yourself up a sticker or two if there are any left. Hope it’s a good day for everyone.

Old and new school BMX BBQ in Brisbane

9 May 2008 by james and filed in BMX, Events

Robert from Lewis and Sons has once again been good enough to organise a gathering of old and not so old BMXers. Scheduled for next weekend so check out the flyer for all the details and everyone is welcome. Last year was a very relaxed affair as only the Queenslanders can do. Looking forward to heading up a few days early and getting some riding done around the Brisbane area. So watch out for me screaming around on the FlyBikes Campillo.

Bruce at the ACT titles 2008

13 March 2008 by james and filed in BMX, Events

Bruce travelled down to the ACT Titles held in late February with his two boys. He was probably the favourite to take the 40-44 Men’s Cruiser class and was leading in the final when he went down. Don’t know the full story yet, however, I imagine there was a bit of disappointment. Perhaps he was think he should have worn the rsabout top in the final rather than the motos. Oh well, maybe stick to the skateparks on the DK hey Bruce?

Thanks to Tony/Renee for the use of the photo.

Jurassic Classic Old School BMX racing footage

7 March 2008 by james and filed in BMX, Events

I have finally put the footage together in a half decent edit. I had a ball racing in the rsabout jurassic classic even if I wasn’t that fast. It was an open wheel race, although most rode 20″ bikes, and the riders had to be 35 years or older and the bikes had to be pre 1986 with exceptions made for tyres, grips and seats. Great to see the huge Haro number plates and a few turned up in their old shool gear.

Thanks to Gary Winmill for organising the event, Pete Cooper for the use of The Porkers’ music and the Ashmore BMX Club.

It’s over six minutes and the file is about 41MB so you can grab the Quicktime version, view the larger YouTube version or watch the smaller one below.

There’s also some photos from the 3rd annual vintage bmx gathering that was held on the same day.
