Luke made the long drive up the road to the Border BMX club at Wodonga for the Victorian Open BMX Championships a couple of weekends ago. As many people do, he pulled out the 24″ cruisers as well and the 20″ even though he doesn’t race it often.
In the 20″ motos he managed three firsts, a second and a third which was pretty respectable. The quarter final was a bit more challenging after he hit the gate on the way out and managed to recover to take second. Another bad start in the final and was shut down in the pack. All was not lost though as a few ran wide in the first corner and up to fifth and then to fourth which he held until the finish line.
Luke’s cruiser race sounds a bit like the ones I used to race. In the final people were crashing everywhere and he managed another fourth place. Sometimes just staying upright pays off.
All in all a good weekend’s racing and a couple of 4V plates in two of the largest and most competitive classes is a great effort.
